The Western domestic kitchen is a historical space that reflects the evolving norms and customs of modern society. It carries the weight of a discriminatory heritage, historically reserved for servants and women.
Entre 70 et 75 degrés is a response to that legacy — a project of reappropriation that transforms the kitchen into a space that fosters sharing and conveys new social values. It is not stable; it bends under the weight of its heritage. The objects within the kitchen decipher its history — some transcending it through the absurd, like the speaking tube once used by sovereigns to communicate with their servants, which finds a playful use here. Others create new uses through overt objects — such as the pot of inordinate capacity inviting collective production and consumption of meals.
The space encourages slowness, allowing for an extended time for meal preparation. It seeks to overcome the discrimination and lack of questioning linked to traditions and optimisation. At the heart of this, lies the poetry of the everyday and a heightened sensitivity to our surroundings, creating a setting for memories, reflection and connection.
