YEAR 2025
PLACE Espace Dukat, Genève
On the eve of the opening, ten people are at work in an almost surreal scene. A former motorcycle garage is transformed into an exhibition space, reclaiming a commercial industrial site to prompt collective reflection on alternative futures. Steeped in references to the building, its former tenant and its geographical context, the mercantile gives way to questioning, while advertising is stripped of its images.
To announce the 2025–2026 season of Espace Dukat, Collectif Kimera enlisted Souplex Atelier for scenography and artistic direction. Souplex gathers Collectif Kimera’s ten artists in a mise-en-scène that interrogates individualism, the omnipresence of advertising, and the paradoxical, often tense relationship artists have with these forces; caught between critiquing them and needing to participate to keep their work alive and resonant. The project pays homage to Jacques Tati’s film Mon Oncle, a satirical take on modernity and industrialisation, while striving to restore human presence and social bonds to the centre of attention.
Conceived as a manifesto in the form of an image, the photograph entitled ‘*demi-tour’ invites the eye to wander and lose itself in a profusion of details, references and playful composition. The collective reinvents a space for critical creation, where, upon the foundations of an industrial past, a new project takes root, gesture by gesture. The image both immortalises this chosen family and celebrates the launch of the venue’s third season.
