*bas-côté
[FR] [EN]

Art direction and scenography created for the launch of the 2026–2027 season at Espace Dukat. *bas-côté features the artists of Collectif Kimera in a domestic setting that has been reimagined to explore family models and inherited values.

CATEGORY    Scenography, art direction

YEAR    2026
PLACE    Espace Dukat, Genève

The living room of a collective that has become a chosen family stretches along a corridor of storage units. Here, we wait. Perhaps for a better political situation, a more inclusive society, a new economic system? Can representation become action? In the meantime, the carpet grows along the side, and we must once again rethink inherited values, laying down the border markers to create a shared table.

Following on from the space created for *demi-tour, the photographic work that announced Espace Dukat’s 2025–2026 season, we now find ourselves inside the space that came before it. In a surreal composition, the nuclear family and religion are both referenced and questioned, transforming a concrete space into an intimate one, where, despite the constraints, we make family.

Conceived both as an artistic installation for the exhibition bas-côté and as the setting for a manifesto photograph launching Espace Dukat’s 2026–2027 season, the work invites the eye to wander and get lost in an abundance of details, references, and compositional games.
